Gap Filler Trip
We are really looking forward to our Gap Filler trip on Monday. You are still more than welcome to come with us. If you'd like to come with us on the bus we are leaving from outside the school at 9am. We should be back by 2:30pm.
If you'd like to meet us there, the Pallet Pavilion is our 'home base' for the day. The Pallet Pavilion is located on the corner of Kilmore and Durham Street. You can park opposite the Town Hall on Kilmore Street. We will be meeting there at 9:15am.
Thanks to those parents who have confirmed that they are coming. It should be a great day!
Thanks
Nicky Pateman

Meet the Teacher - THANKS
A big THANK YOU to those of you who attended the Meet the Teacher on Thursday night. It was great to see so many of you there. Our Year 7/8 team really do appreciate your support and your involvement in your child's education.
We look forward to working with you all over the coming year.

Term 1 Home Learning
Students have a copy of the Term 1 Home Learning in their Home Learning book. Each student will be given weekly home learning, with a focus on our 3 core learning areas of reading, writing and Mathematics. Further to this, students can opt into a range of 'Can Do' Challenges which can earn them a Senior Success Award (these badges are then sewn onto their senior jackets).
Our 'Can Do' Challenges will change each term.
It's pleasing to see that some students have already began to think about what 'Can Do' Challenge area they'd like to focus on this term.
Emily is currently working towards a Leadership award for her Family SMART projects.
Jake is working towards a Sports award for this Sports SMART projects.
Lily is working towards an Arts award for her Arts SMART projects.
It's so awesome to see Room 18 really leading by example! Love it!

Week 1 Poetry
Sleep Tight
The sound of the waves crashing against the rock cliff,
With the faint sound of seagulls and children ahead.
The sun making it hard to see,
My eyes tracing shapes in the sand.
Walking up to the trashing water,
The tips of my toes touching the icy blue water.
Thoughts in my mind wander away,
As I look out at the horizon.
It smells of the salty water.
Time passes and the sea settles,
I wonder away in the night,
Sleep tight...

Welcome to 2014!
2014 is shaping up to be another fantastic year for Room 18. Students have settled in nicely and routines are well-underway.
Technology starts this Friday for Year 7/8.
Year 8 will be travel to Phillipstown for a second year, and Year 7 will go to Christchurch East. Students need to be at school before 8:30am each Friday morning and make sure that they sign the register on the classroom door. It is important that all students then head to the basketball court on the 8:30am bell to line up in their technology lines. The bus needs to leave by 8:45am as Technology classes start at 9am sharp.
Next Tuesday is Swimming Sports at Wharenui Pool. All Room 18 students have entered in a minimum of 3 events each. We are aiming for maximum participation in an effort to earn the Year 7/8 Class Eagle trophy. Things are sure to heat up because there is some stiff competition out there!
I am hoping to have Waiapara camp notices out next Monday. The dates are 10th-12th March (please pencil this into your diary). We will need 3 parents per class to make the camp possible. Please have a think about whether you might be able to help.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to pop on in, or email me on nickyp@stmartins.school.nz
