Term 4 Writing Samples
For our Term 4 writing sample, students were asked to draw inspiration from the image below and craft a descriptive piece of writing.
It has been awesome to compare our Term 4 writing samples to the one taken earlier in the year. Without a doubt, our Term 4 samples are remarkably better! Well done Room 18! I particularly admire your efforts to include vocabulary that we have learned throughout the year.
Here are some samples:
Anzac
The trees sit and stare, stretching out their limbs, presenting obstacles in the creatures path. The lively mist clings to the trees, snaking around them. Ferns, pesky vines and layers of leaves from many autumns ago sprawl across the ground erasing the forests many secrets lurking beneath the roots of the trees.
Jaden
The wind howled as it rushed through the tall thin trees. Shadow danced through the darkness to the harmonious whistle of the cold wind. The wafer thin leaves gently floated to the ground.
Ella
The beams from the moon light up the lone trees and make it possible to see. The autumn leaves are moist and ready to disintegrate into the cold, hard ground. The moss and the small plants pop up through all the grey mist that lingers above the ground.
Theo
The setting moon shone blue through the dampened forest illuminating the blackened threes and silhouetting mysterious figures.
Thomas
It’s a desolate black spire of volcanic rock which has thrust it’s way out of an area of uncharted ocean.
Jack
The myriad, mangled mess of trees draped over the leaves that carpeted the ground. Figures of tree-like beasts guarded the blue light within the forest.
Brooke
The light beam was blinding. Translucent people stand in the background waiting. The malevolent forest still stands haunted, but beautiful.
Tallulah Belle
The vast tree root has got me, has kidnapped me into a place where the sun is no longer likely to lustre upon the depths of inundated dead leaves.
Fergus
Shadows lurk among the uprooted foliage and mangled branches. Steam arises from the mysterious pool of slime. Moss climbs lazily up the rocks and branches. The bizzare stench of death emits a peculiar vapour.
Ari
The moss was damp against my feet. It was dark and gloomy. Light penetrated the canopy.
Emily
The trees rattle and scream against each other. Owls hoot over and over.
Angus
An irascible beast stormed into my path and the juggernaut beast hurled a colossus log straight towards me.
Mitchell
The brittle trees creaked silently in the subtle wind. The flapping of wings scares her, making the girl jump, stirring the leaves around her.
Ben
Moss entwine around the stubby trunk of the tree. Trees all posing for their shot, bending side to side while showing off their grimy dresses.
Kate
The wind howling. Huge wolves running, foraging for food. The moonlight is beaming through the gaps between the trees.
Jess
The trees fold over as the freezing cold wind blows through the branches, but suddenly it all stops. Beams of light shine straight through the trees as they stand tall in the slight air.
Montel
The light penetrating. Lonely, swampy sounds from the back of my head. I turn around. Nothing there. Getting darker and darker.
Louie
No one knows what lives in the forest, but you can see these black shadows in the forest. Sometimes I think that they're soul stealers.
Oscar
Getting a grip over fears, walking towards the moonlit sky, hoping it’s not the highway to hell.

Check your senior jackets
Parents: please check the names and sizes on your child's senior jacket. Quite a few students have lost their senior jackets lately and as I'm sure you can appreciate, they'd like to find them. In particular, we are looking for a size 10 senior jacket with no Senior Success Awards attached.
Please ensure that all school clothing is clearly labeled with your child's name and where possible, class number.

A lot has happened since the last blog entry:
- A number of Room 18 students participated in the Gut Busta event on 29th September at the Mandeville Sports Centre. Mitchell and Angus' team placed 1st in the boys category and Emily, Jess, Ella and Bella placed 4th in their girls category.
- Room 18 participated admirably in the school Athletics Day, and although we did not bring back the Class Eagle, a number of students qualified through to Zones. The zone competition will be held Wednesday 6th November. Of special note, Emily was named the 12 years girls age champion.
