Young Writer's Radio Broadcast Time

Our ‘Missing In Action’ radioplay will be broadcast on Thursday 3rd December at 12noon and repeated at 7:30pm on Friday 4th December.  If you miss these, a podcast will be uploaded to the Plains FM website shortly.  I can't wait!

Today the science roadshow team came and taught us about science. There were two shows then we could look around at the exhibits. It was interesting and fun.

Christmas Hampers

This year, as a substitute for Secret Santa, St Martins School will be collaborating with the Christchurch Methodist Mission to help provide for families this Christmas. We will include things in the hampers like presents for their children, food for a Christmas meal, and Christmas crackers. Some appropriate foods could be: Christmas cake, chocolate, lollies, tinned fruits, fruit juice, and useful items like flour, sugar and washing powder. More information will come to each syndicate about the families they will be providing for, so you can base your presents on this. This project will finish at the end of week 8, so get collecting!

Helpers Needed

Tomorrow and Friday we have the Science Roadshow visiting.  They need students to help set up from 8am tomorrow morning.  If you are around and about at 8am, please head down to the hall to help set up.  :)

Google Australia

Sally - Ann  Williams started at Google Australia as an engineer.  She was very engaging even via Skype from Australia.  Google Australia started with a little thing called Google maps. Check out the photos of their office.  Theres actually a part of a monorail in there!

They build global products.    She spoke about the careers of the future.  Sally-Ann shared about crisis mapping in the case of disasters. It helps find people and check they are safe.  It was used in Nepal most recently.  It provides two way mapping so people can find out about their loved ones even if they can't directly contact them.

There's cool technology to help people track diabetes with technology.

Self-driving cars were mentioned in a couple of the talks today.  Computer science +  engineering.  Check out the pic.
Biomechanics. These two guys have a new arm created by 3d printing! Nice one!

Operating with the Da Vinci robot

Surgeons can be operating a robot that operates on a patient in another city.  Check this link out.  A New Zealand woman helped develop this robot.  Cool stuff.

Double Time Conference 18th Nov

Students from St Martins School are being inspired by many future focused thinkers at the Double Time Conference held at Cathedral Grammar. Ian Taylor was our first keynote speaker.  His company developed the app for the America's Cup virtual reality footage.  The developers never met to work on it, they did it all via technology.

The Pateman Pod would like to invite you to our ‘learning share’ in Week 8.

Date: Monday 30th of November

Time: 11:30am-12:30pm

Place: Room 18 & 19

We will share our science boards with you (11:30am-12:00noon) and then dazzle with a ‘top notch’ debate between Room 18 and 19 (12:00-12:30pm).

Students are invited to bring along some food for a shared lunch (12:30-1:00pm).  Parents… you are more than welcome to stay behind for some yummies and a coffee!
