Refugee Inquiry Projects from Term 1

Mr P and I are so impressed by the high standard of inquiry projects from last term.  We had an array of presentation modes - e.g. Google Slides, movies, booklets, posters, speeches and even some interviews with refugees who are now living in Christchurch.

We thank all students for the maturity and cultural sensitivity that you displayed throughout the unit.

Don't forget, the World Vision 40hr Famine is next month.  This event provides the perfect opportunity for you to advocate for refugees and help raise much needed funds.  In Rooms 18 & 19, we have 33 students who have signed up for the challenge.  This year, it is suggested that students fill a backpack with everything that they need for 40hrs and survive on this, much like a refugee would.

Descriptive Writing

Today Room 18 & 19 wrote some fabulous discriptive writing.  We were given an image and had 15 minutes to write a piece of discriptive writing and these are some of our favourites!

Isabella. P

Broken.
Limbs and emotions, he stands awaiting his mistress of hope.
Slender surroundings, the branches lacerating his soul.
Purpose hides among the shadows along with those gone.

He stand upon debris.
His silhouette an arcanum to those who wander,
As the mist blankets the land
He fades...

Ollianda

War. Arduous war, feral war, calamity of war. There's nothing left of the dark place.  You can hear covens all around. Sereneness is well lost, forever. The only thing that still stands is a zephyr. Giving people life. All you can hear are footsteps that you hope aren't coming for you and structures collapsing with a fracas. The place was eradicated and still is. All people talk about is razes of evil and never go there! So they just leave it germinated by evil never to be seen by the human eye again.
