Ski Trip
Year 7/8 Ski Trip
A great time was had by all who attended our annual Mt Hutt ski trip on Thursday 10th September. We left bright and early at 7am and arrived at the slopes not long after 9am. Students who graduated their ski or snowboard lessons on the Magic Carpet in the morning were able to travel with adults on the chair lifts in the afternoon. Besides some sore bottoms, we managable to come away from the day intact. Big thanks to all the parents who helped on the day! We couldn't offer these kinds of opportunities for our students without your continued support. More photos to come :)

A very special thanks must go to Mr Tony Roberts who dedicates a considerable amount of extra time and effort to working with our CantaMath teams and students who attend morning Maths Club each week.

Year 7/8 Canterbury Current Events Quiz (Otago Times Extra!)
On Wednesday 2nd September, we had four teams compete in the Canterbury Current Events Quiz held at Avonhead School. Our teams were made up of the students who placed highest in our syndicate current events quiz that was held in our school hall. The teams were:
| Team 1 | Sam C. | Lily S. | Molly |
| Team 2 | Lachlan | Rosa | Paris T. |
| Team 3 | Finn | Amy | Rosie |
| Team 4 | Ben | Evie | Eilish |
Well done to all the students who participated. Our highest placing team was Team 1 on 88 points out of 100 - making them 7th equal on the night out of 75 teams.
Year 7/8 Speech Competition
The zone competition hosted by Beckenham School on Tuesday, 8th September, saw a number of strong speakers present from Cashmere, Hillview Christain, St Peters, Beckenham and St Martins. In the end, Louie H. was awarded 1st place in the Year 7 category and Paris T. placed 3rd in the Year 8 category. This means that St Martins School has placed in both categories since the inaugural event 3 years ago. Well done Year 7/8, we are so proud of your efforts!

Ski trip tomorrow
Please be at school tomorrow no later than 6:50am. Students need to line up in the hall in their class lines to be checked off the register. Some parents are travelling straight to Mt Hutt and have confirmed this by email or phone contact. We have two buses booked for the syndicate. Mr Pateman will explain which classes will travel on each bus when we all arrive at school. We plan to leave at 7am sharp so that we can arrive between 9-9:30am.
When we arrive, we will be given ski passes and skis/snowboards from the hire shop downstairs.
Each child has been allocated to a group and each group has been assigned an adult helper for the day. Adult helpers will have a list of the students in their group. It is important that students remain in contact with their adult helper to avoid getting lost on the slopes.
We have organised ski/snowboard lessons for students. These are scheduled to begin at 10:30am.
All going smoothly... we expect to be back around 5pm. We will be in regular contact with our principal and Diane in the office throughout the day. Diane will be able to update you on ETA later in the day. This will be done by text message directly to your phone. :)
Many thanks for your cooperation!
Hopefully the weather will play nice and we'll have a fab day! Each year, the ski trip is one of our highlights of the year!
See you tomorrow bright and early. :)
