End of Term Baking Auction Photos

Wearable Arts Photos from 10th & 11th July

'Adorn'
3 weeks on and I still get a smile on my face when I think about what Room 18 created for the Year 5-8 Wearable Arts show last term.  Between our shiny 'ice knight'; the graceful waterfall; giant balaclava-wearing puffer fish and masked coral reef; the deep sea diver-chasing angler fish; the twirling ocean goddess trio; the beautiful pearl/clam and tissue-paper ocean trial, and finally, the mythological creature at the end, we sure did put on a show that the audience will remember for some time.  Well done Room 18 S.T.A.R.S!  Doing Mrs P. proud!

Otago Times Extra! Canterbury Spelling Quiz

Impressive Results at the Year 7/8 Canterbury Spelling Quiz

On Monday 29th July, four teams of Year 7/8 students competed in the Otago Times Extra! Canterbury Spelling Quiz held at Chisnalwood Intermediate.  Our teams got off to an impressive start, with Team 3 sitting on 100% after 3 competitive rounds.  The competition consisted of a range of language skills, including: spelling challenges, word meanings, derivations & origins.  From the 67 teams that competed, our teams placed well.

16th =: Kate, Maia & Lilly (Team 1)
35th =: Karina, Theo & Dani (Team 3)
45th =: Anzac, Ruby & Emma (Team 2)

Congratulations to these 12 students - we are very proud of your achievements.

The Periodic Table

Over the next two terms we'll be studying Earth Systems (global warming, water cycle, earthquakes, weather systems and the like).  As part of our Science inquiry, we'll also be challenging ourselves to learn the elements of the Periodic Table.  Let the fun begin!

Wearable Arts

I don't want to give too much away... but we are pretty proud of what we have achieved so far in Room 18 for the Wearable Arts show 'Adorn'.

The Seek and Sort stages of Inquiry - researching, planning & designing

The Connecting stage of Inquiry - connecting all of our understandings to create our product

The Real Assessment Task (RAT) - the culmination of everything coming together in our Wearable Arts show 'Adorn' --> DON'T MISS THE SHOW... this Wed and Thurs night.

End of Term Festivities :)

BAKING ACTION
On Thursday 11th July, Room 18 will be holding a class baking auction.  The event is designed to reward students for their patience, reliability and responsible behaviour throughout the term.

Students have been earning classroom currency in the form of ‘time'.   Students will be able to use their ‘time’ to purchase an item of baking on the day.

To make this event possible, each student is asked to bring along an item of baking to be auctioned off.

These items could include, but are not limited to:
  • cupcakes
  • biscuits
  • slice
MOVIE SCREENING
In addition to the baking auction, we will be screening a movie.  Students are free to bring along items of comfort (for example, a pillow or blanket), but must understand that they are responsible for such things whilst at school.  The movie title is yet to be confirmed.  A decision will be made early in the week and a permission slip will be sent home (if the rating exceeds G-rating).  Students need to return the permission slip by the Thursday.

Many thanks
