Flax feathers sway to the flamingo singo dance

Dolphins leap in the moonlight

The sound of crackling waves shiver up my spine

Time passes and the sea settles.

I wonder away in the night

Unreal, unread the earths great treasures

Unreal, unread the sand between my toes

Fiji tropical island
Crystal clear water as bright as the sun
The soft silky sand between my toes
Waves splashing against the rocks.

Diving with the gold sparkling fish
Floating shells under the giant moon
Laying on the soft warm beach
The wind dies down and I go to sleep.

Hot temperatures make me sweat

The sand still at a scorching temperature

Its squishing between my toes

The minor waves rolling up shore

The shiny paua reflects the suns light making it hard to see.

Surfer's boards shoot up in the air and back down in the distance

The humid air is warm

Fish are swimming around a big piece of driftwood

Seagull feathers fall next to my hand, I chase the feathers into shore

Walking up the beach, sand sticking to my feet.

Gap Filler Guided Tour with Sally - Rotation 3

 Sally showed us the Rekindle store that makes furniture and jewellry out of recycled wood from earthquake damaged homes etc.

Amelia's drawing was inspired by something that she saw at the Rise Exhibition.

Ben M's work is just exquisite!  I can't wait to see his talent develop further over the year.

Rise Exhibition at the Canterbury Museum - Rotation 2

The work by Ikarus and Wongi were a favourite.

It was interesting to hear how the female artist of this twisted horse uses a 'pasted paper' technique.  

We enjoyed analysing some of the pieces in the Banksy exhibit.  Students provided a number of interesting suggestions for motivations and intended political messages. 

Milton Springsteen's work sparked interesting discussion about 'misappropriation' (using another artist's work).

Ben M is a brilliant young artist.  He drew some amazing sketches throughout the day!

Pallet Pavilion & Gap Filler Audio Tour - Rotation 1

Welcome/Introduction from Sally at Gap Filler

We learned that everything at the Pallet Pavilion is recycled.  From the potato crate tables, to the vegetable crate seats and the old supermarket signs that have been transformed into colourful table tops. 

Lucas spotted a number of significant points in Victoria Park as he listened to the Gap Filler audio recording.

Jack, Ben and Montel reflected on their experiences of the old Town Hall.

Captain James Cook status

The boys listened to some of the history of the Queen Victoria statue in Victoria Park.

Victoria Park provided the perfect location for an exploration of Christchurch's historical and contemporary identity.

The Arcades on the corner of Kilmore and Durham St provides a pathway between Victoria Street and the central city.

 

The team reflected on what they liked and didn't like about the audio tour.  They were challenged to think about alternative recordings and what they'd like to see happen in Christchurch's future.

The Gap Golf at the Pallet Pavilion was a big hit.
