World Education Games - this week!

Room 18/19 is taking part in the World Education Games which take place across 13th-15th October (this Tuesday through Thursday).  More than 5 million students from 200 countries and territories will register for the games in 2015.  The games are an exciting online challenge open to all students who will be going up against students from all around the world.

The event format is:
Warm up - open now
Competition period - 13 - 15 October
Warm down - 16 - 31 October

Each of our students are automatically registered for this event through our Mathletics membership.

In order to practice and compete in this event, students must use their Mathletics username and password to sign into WWW.WORLDEDUCATIONGAMES.COM

Students will earn points for each correct answer given on Spellodrome, Mathletics and Into Science (the first 20 games on each count towards their official score).  A live digital Hall of Fame on the homepage will track the top scoring students and schools from across the world.

Just by participating through the answering of questions, students will be earning UNICEF Points which are converted into money which will go directly to supporting UNICEF education programs where class and school resources are desperately needed.

More information can be found at WWW.WORLDEDUCATIONGAMES.COM/UNICEF

Good luck to all students representing our pod during this year’s event!  We'll run a tutorial in class tomorrow with how to log in and how to navigate around the site.  It's important that each student become familiar with the layout and content on Monday night, so that they are ready to roll Tuesday.  Students should already be familiar with Live Mathletics, so it would be good to look particularly at Spellodrome and Into Science.

Christchurch Water Polo Tournament and Cross Country Regionals

Water Polo Tournament

Our Year 7/8 water polo team competed in a 3-day tournament at Jellie Park.  What's more... some of these kids had not long finished a Canterbury football tournament.  Geez... talk about some energy!  I think that some parents will have some very tired kids tonight!

Mr P and I really enjoyed spending time with such an awesome group of talented, enthusiastic, positive and polite kids.

The team consisted of:
Rosie
Lauren
Amelia
Lily S.
Holly R.
Amy
Finn

Finn made a brilliant debut!  What a strong player!  Thanks Nicole for filling in - you were brilliant!

The team didn't place in the end, but it wasn't for a lack of strong goalie efforts by Holly and Amelia, and some solid goal attempts by Lauren, Lily, Rosie and Amy.  Such a pleasure to see you guys grow in confidence and skills over the 3 days!

Cross Country Regionals
We are so proud of Chloe and Leila who competed in the Cross Country Regionals at the end of last term.  They put in months of training and travelled to Blenheim for the big race.  Leila came in 6th after a good race, and Chloe placed 19th out of 32 runners (after unfortunately taking a wrong turn).  To compete at such a high level is a testament to their commitment to training and sheer determination.  We are so lucky to have you in the Pateman Pod.
Chloe has also recently been selected by her hockey club to warm down with the NZ Black Sticks.  What a treat!

Athletics Day Practice Reminder

A reminder that we have athletics practice at Hansen Park over the next two weeks.  Our first practice is scheduled for 9-10:30am tomorrow morning.  It is important that we have all parent permissions back first thing tomorrow.  If the permission notice that was sent home late last term has been lost, a simple hand written note or email will be fine.

Thanks so much!  See you all tomorrow!
