A solitary wreckage is weighted to the ground, blessed with souls lurking in the charades of darkness. A colourful sensation sways beneath a silhouetted figure towering over the bloom, leaving an enigma behind. A beam of light is commemorated, engulfed in history. A hollow blankets the discolouration surrounding. A death defying scream curdles in the draught of silence.

Memory is shattered. The tentacles of the decay damaging the spirits of undefined souls. Webbed shadows linger, blasting erupting thoughts. Luring a locked pathway sealed with secrets.

Week 2 Writing Samples

The Little Cottage - by Levi

The frothy snow covers the land.  A little cottage flickers its lights on the snow.  The trees silhouette darkens the icy snow.  The wind whips the snow up in the air, making little ripples in the water.

The lights in the air move like waves on a summer day, casting spells and appearing in dreams.  You can taste bitter dissolving snow and hear the whisper of the trees swaying side to side.  You can smell the cocoa bubbling in the mugs and feel the soft wind as it touches your skin.

Winter Wonderland - by Jay

The sparkling sky shining on the glistening snow.  The smell of cocoa warming you up inside.  The warmth inside the cabin makes you feel like you're dreaming.  The sweet smell of pine trees swaying in the frosty breeze.  The stream so quiet... so still... in the peaceful night.

I was walking in a frosty condition, stepping on the white, freezing, sugar like snow.  There was an abandoned cabin in the distance.  I saw some glistening blue water, but I still kept walking.

A Perfect Scene - by Orla

The illuminated cabin stood out against the forboding forest.  A trickling stream wound its way through the glistening snow, cutting a shining path.  Light from the cabin's windows shone on the fluffy snow outside, making it glow golden in the illuminsence.

The smell of baking cake wafted through the frozen air, making my mouth water and creating an unresistable lure to the source.  The sound of a crackling log fire broke the silence, barely audible, but somehow still there.  The icicles hanging off the cabin froze my fingers, then melted into oblivion, as I dragged my hand over the edge of the low-hanging roof.

The scene was perfect.

A Snowy Paradise - by John

The snow crunched under my feet like corn starch under pressure.  Light from the cabin glimmed and glistened on the snow like crystals in light.  Bushes poked out of the snow, symbolising death and life in a nutshell.  A barrage of light licked the sky like the gods engulfing a good ice cream.

The trees bristle like a toothbrush.  The character of the cottage foretells a long and interesting story.  Wear and tear are visible along the rough edges of the walls.

An aurora dances across the sky, smothering the glistening stars.  Smoke rises from the chimney and swirls through the trees.  A little creek worms through the blanket of snow.  Icicles hang on the porch of the old character cottage.  The smell of boiling hot chocolate flies through the cool night sky.  A frosty breeze whistles, whipping the trees.  The frost biting at my feet.

Shave Your Lid For a Kid

Cara, Bella B., Holly F., Duncan and Jimmy are organising a Shave Your Lid For a Kid event for next term as part of their Term 1 inquiry.  All money raised will be donated to CanTeen New Zealand.  They have organised three collection days at New World, St Martins (dates will be publicised shortly) and will be organising collection days at school.  If you would like to donate and support this cause in the meantime, please visit the link below for more information:

Pythagoras Maths Questions

  1. Is This Always True?
Please provide 2-3 mathematical examples to prove or disprove these statements.
1. Patti says that if you add the same negative integer five times, the sign of the sum is negative and its size is five times the size of the original integer.

For example:
–7 + (–7) + (–7) + (–7) + (–7)

= –(5 × 7) [7 is the size of –7]

= –35

2. Dina says that if you add a negative integer to a positive integer, the sum is zero or less.
