Wearable Arts - Inquiry T.A.S.C.

Dear Families,

Over the past few weeks, students have been busily Tuning In to the Term 2 Wearable Arts inquiry.  The overarching theme for the performance is Adorn.  We are drawing inspiration from the Māori creation myth of Rangi and Papa.  Our class has been given the sub-theme of water (oceans, waterfalls, lakes, rivers etc).

In teams of 3, students have been working hard to create a list of questions that they need answered (the Asking Questions stage).  Week 4 will be Seeking and Sorting week.  Students will use a variety of books, websites and human resources to find the answers they need.

I have penciled in Week 6 (Monday 10th June - Thursday 13th June) as construction week.  If you are able to help at all during this time, your help would be much appreciated!  Also, I am on the look out for a wonderful person who would be willing to lend us their sewing machine for the week.

Please ask your child about their wearable arts creations, as your input is valuable.  I am encouraging the students to think 'art rather than costume'.

Thanks very much!
Mrs Nicky Pateman

Poetry

We are going to start studying poetry this term.  As inspiration, check our Room 12's blog.  Ms Saxon adds a new selection of poems that her students have written on a weekly basis.  Seriously... check out the Room 12 Blog tab... they are pretty impressive!

Blog entries:
- Leaf Attack!
- Walt Witman
- Storm Poems

Well done Room 18!

I AM SO EXCITED... Room 18 is really starting to bring their 'A Game'.  Not only did we give Room 19 a run for their money on Thursday, but our biography presentations are going great guns (no pun intended Ben)!  I can't wait for the next round of oral language in Week 5.

Remember the marking schedule:
Clarity of voice and eye contact - 3
How well you know your information - 3
Interesting facts - 3
Use of resources - 3
Timing - 3

Congratulations to everyone who competed in the cross country event at Hansen's Park last week.  A big shout out to Jack, Ella, Angus, Fergus, Mitchell and Tallulah-Belle who all placed in the top 6.  We wish them all the best at zone cross country (Wed 29th May).

Wicked Writers!

Check out some of our writing samples on the Writing page.  We have been working on descriptive language and using a variety of sentence types and lengths for effect.  We'd love to read your comments...

Welcome!

Hi there!  Welcome to Room 18's brand new blog!  We are going to use this blog to publish students work in literacy, Mathematics, inquiry and visual arts.  The published work will be examples of Personal Best.
The blog will celebrate student success and student learning - it will serve as a 'sharing portal'... and we hope that students and parents will become active contributors in this process.

Please have a look around and comment on students' work.  We learn best when we receive feedback and feed-forward comments.

Thanks for your involvement!
Mrs P. and Room 18
