Conference Reminder

Thanks to those who have already booked a conference slot for next week.  :)

There are 14 families who are yet to book.  At this conference, we will discuss your child's progress report and we'll talk about next steps in their learning.  It is important that you attend this conference (with your child) so that we can continue to move your child forward in their learning.

Conference times are:
Tuesday 29th July 1:30pm-8:00pm, and
Wednesday 30th July 3:30pm-8:00pm

Year 5-8 Takeaway Night

The S'MART Community is organising a Year 5-8 Takeaway Night for Friday 8th August (Week 3) 5:30pm - 7:30pm.  Families are encouraged to bring along their own takeaway and enjoy time together as a school community.  Be sure to pencil this event into your diaries!

This has been a much better week in terms of completing Mathletics activities.  A new set of revision activities have been set for this week.

The WHY behind the Area of a Circle

In Mathematics this week, we have continued our study of the measurement strand.

In particular:
Perimeter and area of a: square, rectangle, triangle and circle (circumference)
Volume of a: cube, rectangular prism, triangular prism, cylinder and cone

We have been learning Karate Maths to help us remember the formulas for each (ask your child to demonstrate!).  It is important however, that we understand the WHY for each... this is not so easy!

Room 18 Synopsis - 'Strike Hospital'

This is it, it's time for the Strike Hospital to prove how good they are.  The District Health Board are threatening to shut them down.  Are they good enough to survive the week?  This hilarious slapstick comedy will make you wet your pants and cry with laughter. - Jonas 

Strike Hospital gets a warning from the Head of the District Health Board (Veronica English) and are put to the test when they only have one week to pick up their act.  Will they save the hospital in time?  A classic slapstick comedy that will have your eyes glued to the screen the whole time. - Jack B.

Room 18s slapstick comedy will make you laugh till you drop dead.  Strike Hospital is being closed down and the responsibility has been placed on the doctors' shoulders.  Will they save the hospital? - Ben M.

Disaster is arriving this winter at the Footrots dootstep.  One inspection will decide it all!  Will they survive the wrath of the Murphy's?  It's up to Rangi, Pongo, Dog, Horse and Aunt Dolly to save the Footrots from the storm that's raging on? - Anu

The Footrots are back in their great old fashion, ready to challenge the wrath of the notorious EQC.  As they fight for their house they are pushed to the full limits.  So, get ready to indulge yourself in this dramatic new adventure. - Angus

The cover of Footrot Flats with Kiwi inspiration of the earthquake, Wal and Cooch's house needs rebuilding and the EQC men send a letter for them to come and inspect their house.  They came through the town, but the Murphy's have planned something very bad.  To find out more about this great movie, you'll have to come to our movie night on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of July.  - Trinity
