On Wednesday we are going to tie dye tshirts (and/or screen print - depending on time). We ask that all students bring along a white tshirt or pillow case.
Also, given the cost of dye, can students also please bring in $3 to help cover costs.
Many thanks
Nicky and Jarad

Year 7/8 Sports Coaching - Senior Interchange
For Senior Interchange this term we decided to allow students to choose 2 electives. Subjects on offer: Outdoor Ed; Sports Coaching; Geography and Science. Each interchange subject runs for 3 consecutive Thursdays, 11:30am-3pm.
Below are a selection of photos from Round 1 of Sports Coaching.
In groups, students had to plan and teach a group of Year 3/4 students. They had to devise:
a) a warm up game;
b) a drill/skill session, and
c) a modified game.
Students were assessed on their communicative and organisational skills; along with specific skills in group management, coaching instruction and coach feedback.
Some student instructor quotes:
"Being a teacher is hard," Aljaz.
"What do you do when kids say 'No'?" Paris D.
"They didn't listen," Molly.
I think that being a coach gave the Year 7/8s a new found appreciation for the work that teachers do on a weekly basis. :)

Physical Competency Test Photos - 21st October
Year 7/8 Police Physical Competency Test
Teams spent the morning participating in a variety of activities: Zumba, team building activities and the much anticipated timed Physical Competency Test (the same test that the police do as part of their entrance test).
While neither team managed to qualify for Nationals, their behaviour was impectable and we were impressed by the way that they encouraged and supported each other throughout the morning. Well done St Martins!
Zone Athletics Day - Wednesday 9th November
Well done to all who qualified for Zone Athletics! We had some really impressive results on the day. What a talented bunch of kids we have at SMS!
Mr Pateman is finalising all of the results and is in the process of entering the top two from each event into the Canterbury Athletics (to be held in Ashburton on Wednesday 7th December).
