Aesop lived in Greece in the early sixth century. A slave after having been captured in war, he achieved a reputation for the great wit he demonstrated while telling tales in discussion and negotiation.

The fables have come to be used for a variety of purposes (including artistic motivation/inspiration). While Aesop used his fables to make witty points to solve problems and reveal human truths, over time many of the stories have been used to open up discussion about human behaviour, morals and values.
